France 2030
In October 2021, the Elysée Palace announced the introduction of a new project – France 2030. The programme proposes an investment and delegation of 35 billion euros over 5 years to sectors of the future. This is down to certain industries gently starting to fall behind those of fellow nations but also as a means for France to take the lead, certainly in Europe, and further afield.
The main areas of investment, although not exhaustive, will be ecology, biomedicine, transport and tech ;
- In the ecological sector, France aims to reduce the net level of CO2 produced between 2015 and 2030 by 35%. Moreover, it wants to become a leading power in the use of green hydrogen and renewable energies, of which the focus will be nuclear.
- With an investment of 3 billion euros, France is aiming to produce 20 new biomedicines in the fight against cancers and chronic illnesses.
- 4 billion euros will be funnelled into the transport sector with France having set a goal of creating 2 million hybrid and electric vehicles.
- The tech industry will play a vital role in aiding the development of the aforementioned vehicles, however it will not simply be limited to this role. Deep tech will arguably be at the vanguard of this project. We will see the introduction of greater and broader teaching schemes, huge efforts to develop the research side of technology and the easing of France’s technological dependency on fellow nations.
In order for this programme to be successful, France will see certain conditions accompanying the vast investments. These include, but are not limited to, greater foresight into the human skills required and certain changes to the taxation system in order to aid and accelerate the growth of companies.
