France – leading innovation in Europe
According to the National Institute of Intellectual Property, France is innovating at a faster rate than ever before.
On the European scale, France is the second most innovative country in the EU in terms of patent requests according to the OEB (European Office of Patents). Internationally, this index ranks France as the 5th most innovative country in the world.
In 2021, 14,758 new patents were filed and 113,070 trademarks were created; an increase of 3.1% and 6.5% respectively compared to 2020.
This has been helped by the French government’s new fiscal regulations, which have made France one of the leading countries in the EU promoting R&D. CIR accreditation for example, allows companies, whom carry out R&D projects entirely within the EEA, to receive a tax credit of 30%.
